THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF MOVEMENT WORKSHOP

Artist Research / Conceptual Focus for the lesson :

“Taking a Line on a walk.” Paul Klee

A dot, symbolizing a static point, gathers momentum and embarks on a journey to become a line.

This concept represents the essence of creativity and growth. The Movement Workshop encourages us to let go and allow ourselves to be guided by the currents of nature. To capture the essence of our environment as we begin to trust in ourselves and our ability.

In David Maclagen’s Introduction to his book ‘Line Let Loose’, he describes “Innocent experiments” as the kind of drawing that happens when you're not thinking at all. A drawing that is faced with no judgement because it comes from a place of pure curiosity, it explores the intersection between habit and invention, accident and design.

Spontaneous and impulsive mark making can be used as a tool to bypass the conscious mind and access the unrealised thoughts hiding in the subconscious. Taking a line on a walk also represents taking a thought, an idea, an inspiration and making it happen through movement and action.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Overview

Art challenges us to see the world through fresh eyes. It urges us to step outside our comfort zones and explore new possibilities. In this Workshop we will take a line on a walk as we too embark on a mindful walk around the city parks. Stopping often to sit and draw in our sketchbooks. As the discussion  opens, a guided drawing session will begin exploring a variety of gestural drawing and layering techniques.

Switch off your brain,
